My favorite basketball team has always been the Phoenix Suns. This year, I have a new favorite team.
They are now the Phoenix Suns Presented by Casino Arizona.
What?
How dumb is that? If you have been on the Suns website, gone to a Suns game, or watched the Suns on one of the local broadcasts you would know about this change. When the Suns come out on the court to warm up before the game, the PA Annoucner says "Now coming onto the court: YOUR PHOENIX SUNS presented by Casino Arizona"
This corporate sponsorship is getting out of hand.
It's one thing to have the arena named for a sponsor, although that opens it up to name changes such as we had last year - America West Arena to US Airways Center...but to use a corporate sponsor to talk about the team is over the line.
Is the team that hard up for money? Robert Sarver paid $405 million for the team...is he not getting a good return on his investment?
If the NBA ever allows advertising on the uniforms like the overseas leagues do, I may quit being a fan.
What's next? The Phoenix Casinos?
